There has been a report that the parts for the corona test kit are being made at a home that does not have professional facilities.

When the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety checked, there were actually 200,000 parts assembled at home.

Reporter Ha Jeong-yeon covered what happened.

This is a job posting that was recently shared on some apartment bulletin boards and online cafes in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do.

It is about finding a side job from home, and it is advertised that it is a simple task of inserting a nozzle cap filter, one of the parts of the corona test kit, and that they pay 5 won each.

[Informant-Recruiter: (You don't need disinfectant or anything like that?) Yes.

Just a clean tray, pouring white stuff on the tray...

.]

I went to the apartment complex that had a job posting flyer.

[Apartment resident: There was such a thing as a side job box, but sometimes it appears once in a while.

It was like this, like this.]

[Apartment resident: I think I saw something like that, that it is difficult for me to do it alone, so I am looking for an additional person, but I am looking for someone else to fill that…

As a result of an investigation by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, which started with a report by a civic group, there were as many as 200,000 nozzle caps assembled using this home-made manufacturing method.

All were parts of the rapid antigen test kit for professionals.

A company that supplies parts to a pharmaceutical company subcontracted, and this company subcontracted again, so the parts flowed to the house.

Fortunately, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said that all of them were disposed of before delivery.

Not only pharmaceutical companies, but also the companies responsible for manufacturing and supplying nozzle caps were unaware of this fact.

[Nozzle cap manufacturing company representative: At the very least, the work environment is wearing a dust-proof suit, a cap, and latex gloves, but will it be maintained at home?

Subcontractors are greedy to increase the quantity without reporting to me...

.]

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety did not impose any fines and merely issued a strict verbal warning.

As a result, it was only an 'attempt' and there was no circumstance that a pharmaceutical company intervened.

[Gan Jeong-hyeok / CEO of Sprout Parents Association: In this case, it seems that the flyer was attached to the outside, so it was probably discovered.

Not only this company but also other companies are subcontracting nozzle caps, so I think that these problems can be repeated due to subcontracting there...

.]

[Lee Hyuk-min/Professor of Laboratory Medicine, Severance Hospital: It would make no sense to make it at home, and we would have to worry about the problem of contamination.

Wouldn't it be a bit difficult to say that there is no responsibility for the production outside the facility.]

As the number of confirmed cases rapidly increases, the demand for corona diagnosis kits is rapidly increasing, and strict enforcement of laws and supervision by the authorities seems to be more necessary.
