Restoration work is being carried out little by little in areas damaged by forest fires in Gyeongbuk and Gangwon.

However, even though private businesses such as factories, warehouses, and pensions are burned and damaged by fire, there is a lot of concern for the residents because of insufficient support measures.

Reporter Park Chan-beom covered the scene.

It is a pension complex in Donghae city that is crowded with family tourists in spring.

Due to this forest fire, only the left side of the swimming pool in the middle has been turned to ashes.

The house where Kang Seung-hyuk lived and three pensions he had been running had been burned down.

[Kang Seung-hyuk / Damaged business owner: I have received almost 300 million won in mortgage loans, but it was all burned down in one day...

.]

Even the payment of recovery subsidy for the three pensions is unclear.

This is because the person in charge of the city hall answered that it is difficult for pensions to be private businesses, although the victim status has been recognized and a residential house can receive up to 16 million won.

[Kang Seung-hyuk / Damaged business owner: From my point of view, I pay taxes, property taxes, and acquisition taxes with 4 houses, but when I get compensation, these things are omitted…

.]

The situation is the same for the damaged business sites in the Uljin Agricultural Industrial Complex.

Although the government has announced plans to support business sites, such as loans and tax deductions, there is no set amount for the recovery assistance required right now.

The entire warehouse was burned to the extent that the outer walls of this place collapsed.

Fishing nets and fishing gear produced by the factory next door were stored here, but as most of them were lost, the damage was greater.

The owner estimated the loss of goods such as fishing nets and fishing gear alone at 400 million won.

[Jung Kwang-byeong / Damaged business owner: In the case of a burnt company, there is a lot of property loss.

You don't make a lot of money by making the tax or loan interest cheaper.]

The wood factory next door also caught fire in a substation and was shut down for more than ten days.

It is said that the cost of replacing the wires alone is over 100 million won.

[Kim Jong-ryul/Damaged business owner: I can't remember how it melted until the end, still.

I was mentally shocked...

.]

Religious facilities are also excluded from government support.

[Jang Dae-geun / Pastor of the damaged facility: We did nothing wrong and it is a natural disaster, but I do not know what they are going to do with the religious facility.

It's frustrating because I don't know that.]

During the 2019 Goseong wildfire, cash support for 'workplaces' damaged by the local government's disaster fund was only 2 million won.

The Ministry of Public Administration and Security and local governments in affected areas said they would consider ways to reinforce support such as recovery costs at business sites.
