Since the end of last year, there has been an anomaly in the disappearance of bees.

As expected, the strawberry fruit is not bearing well.

An analysis came out that the bees misunderstood the season, leading to mass mortality.

Reporter Lee Yong-shik covered what happened.

<Reporter> This

is a strawberry farm in Hadong, Gyeongnam.

Strawberry flowers are in full bloom, but it is not easy to find bees that move flowers and fertilize them.

There aren't many bees in the hives in the house either.

Strawberry growth is also sluggish because there are no bees to fertilize pollen.

[Lee Cha-yong / Farmer: This fruit is a malformed fruit that was not fertilized by bees.

It has no commercial value, so I have to get it.]

In this farm that raises 600 bees, all bees have disappeared from 250 beehives.

I have to pick honey from next month, but the price of bees has more than doubled, so I have to give up honey farming this year.

[Jeong Hyeon-jo / President of Gyeongnam Branch of Beekeeping Association: I have been beekeeping for 35 years, but this is the first time that bees have disappeared like this.

Even if the bees cost 300,000 won, I can't find them.]

More than 60% of bees disappeared in Gyeongnam and Jeonnam, which suffered the most.

As for domestic beekeeping, about 30,000 farms raise 2.7 million bees.

80% of honey production is acacia honey.

The reason the honeybees disappeared was investigated because of climate change and disease.

In November and December of last year, due to the temporary high temperature phenomenon, the bees, which went into the pizza winter in the southern region, misunderstood the season and went out to collect pollen.

However, it is analyzed that the sudden drop in temperature led to mass mortality.

In addition, natural enemies that parasitize bees and wasps that attack bees were also found to have caused damage.

[Choi Yong-soo/Researcher, Department of Beekeeping Ecology, National Academy of Agricultural Sciences: Lack of food, weather conditions, and outbreaks of pests and pests all acted in a complex way.] The

government provides business rehabilitation funds and bee control drugs to damaged farms, and prepares for abnormal weather. We decided to develop and distribute bee management technology.
