At the beginning of the 1960s,

Matandrino

, a small Segovian village belonging to the municipality of Prádena, was left without inhabitants.

Since then, the town dedicated to agriculture and livestock with nine houses, including some barns and corrals, has remained abandoned.

In recent days, this place in the so-called emptied Spain has become famous, since 75% of its land has gone

on sale for 100,000 euros

.

However, both the town and its surroundings, nestled in an attractive natural environment at the foot of the

Sierra de Guadarrama,

just over an hour from Madrid, have been a destination for hikers and hikers for a long time, due to its charm, the tranquility of the places and for the pure air that is breathed in the area.

Visiting the dilapidated town, covering 5,000 square meters, is an ideal plan for those who want to spend a quiet day, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Family outing

Although Matandrino can be reached by car, it is best to park it in

Prádena

, located just three kilometers away.

From there, a pleasant and easy walk along dirt tracks on flat terrain in a meadow formed by the Matajudíos stream leads to the village.

As you enter the village, you notice a tall stone and wood house that looks new, although it is unfinished inside.

It is said that it was an old reconstructed barn, but that it was never inhabited.

The rest of the town is made up of stone constructions (old houses), along with some demolished cattle pens.

Another curiosity that still remains are the outdoor ovens in the kitchens, next to the stone walls of some houses.

On what was the main road of the village (a dirt road), you can see the Cruz de Mayo, made of white stone, erected in 2016 to replace the wooden cross that existed until then.

After crossing and discovering Matandrino, you return to the starting point of the walk, following a path between pastures and with the wonderful view of the Sierra in the background.

Matandrino is only 15 kilometers from Pedraza.

After an excursion in nature, it is worth spending 20 minutes in the car to visit this beautiful medieval town, declared a Monumental Site for its mansions and palaces, and considered one of the most beautiful towns in Spain.

Strolling through the walled town is like being transported back in time.
