High school students and volunteer firefighters accidentally witnessed a car fire and worked together to extinguish it.

Yesterday (7th) at around 8 am, a fire broke out in the luggage compartment of a 1 ton truck that was running on the road in Sambang-dong, Gimhae-si, Gyeongsangnam-do.

The paper box in the luggage compartment suddenly caught fire.

After the truck driver and passenger stopped the car on the shoulder, they tried to put out the fire by removing the burning box, but it was not easily put out, as it moved to another box.

Taxi driver Jeong Seong-bae (63), a volunteer firefighter at the Gimhae Dongbu Fire Station, was passing by and witnessed a truck fire.

After apologizing to the three students on board, he parked a taxi behind the truck, went outside and tried to extinguish the fire with a car fire extinguisher.

Taxi passengers Kim Dong-hyeon, Park Jun-seong, and Park Hyeon-seong (17, Gimhae Yeongwoon High School) also joined the fire fighting, regardless of who came first.

When the fire did not go out easily, the students ran to a nearby GS convenience store and borrowed a fire extinguisher from the convenience store to help put out the fire.

Just last year, GS Convenience Store signed an agreement with the Fire Department to provide a fire extinguisher that anyone can use.

The truck fire was only extinguished after using five extinguishers.

Seong-bae Jeong said, "I used a fire extinguisher calmly and put out the fire according to the fire drill I received while working as a volunteer fire brigade.

Gyeongnam-do Fire Department decided to award commendation to Daewon Jeong and students who helped put out the fire quickly without any casualties.
