A man who was denied Korean citizenship for reasons such as drunk driving filed an administrative lawsuit, but lost.



Yesterday (6th), according to the legal community, the 2nd administrative division of the Seoul Administrative Court (Judge Lee Jung-min) lost a judgment against Mr. A in a lawsuit against the Minister of Justice, who had a disposition to not allow restoration of nationality by Mr. A, a Canadian citizen.



After leaving for study in Canada in 1998, Mr. A lost Korean citizenship in 2008 and acquired Canadian citizenship, but started living in Korea with his family again in 2007.



In May 2020, Mr. A applied for permission to restore nationality to the Ministry of Justice, but the Ministry of Justice rejected it due to Article 9 of the Nationality Act, 'undetermined behavior'.
