• The Mobile World Congress telephony fair was held in Barcelona from February 28 to March 3.

  • Among the new features presented, the Oppo Find X5 Pro is a very credible challenger against the biggest.

  • For the Chinese manufacturer, it is also a technological showcase whose quality will allow it to improve its image with consumers.

Passed out of the spotlight due to the strong news surrounding the conflict in Ukraine, the Mobile World Congress telephony fair in Barcelona was held from February 28 to March 3.

At the time of all-5G, operators, manufacturers of smartphones and accessories unveiled their new products there.

In the usual absence of Apple and while Samsung and Xiaomi had drawn the first by presenting their Galaxy S22 and Redmi Note 11 before the show, it was Oppo who created the surprise.

And a nice surprise.

A futuristic look that stands out

With its high-end Find X5 Pro smartphone that

20 Minutes

has already been able to test, the Chinese brand wants to play in the big leagues.

And gives itself the means.

Oppo has unveiled a smartphone with an extremely attractive design and performance worthy of the best.

Weighing 218 grams, the Find X5 Pro inherits the futuristic appearance of its predecessor, the Find X3 Pro.

Its specificity: the rear cameras are fully integrated into the shell.

This is forged from a single piece of microcrystalline ceramic.

Oppo's recipe: calcined powder which is then polished with knives!

Without saying more, the manufacturer mentions a production time of 168 hours per hull, a figure that leaves you speechless… There remains a unique aspect that establishes the strong identity of the brand and distinguishes the Find X5 Pro from all its competitors.

Hasselblad in the lens

For performance, Oppo has housed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor behind the 6.7-inch Amoled screen of its smartphone, the most powerful chip on the Android market.

The 3,218 x 1,440 pixel WQHD+ display is a hit.

Masterful display, responsiveness, flawless fluidity with a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate (which adapts to the nature of the content)… the Find X5 Pro seems to have it all.

Perfection for playing and watching video content is there, the smartphone's HDR10 + compatibility raising the display quality to excellence.

But it is also in the photo* that the Find X5 Pro wants to make a name for itself.

For this, Oppo has partnered with Hasselblad.

The Swedish camera manufacturer thus supports the terminal (the Hasselblad 500 EL accompanied Neil Armstrong for his first steps on the Moon in 1969!).

A suprise ?

No, Hasselblad had also been called in at the start of 2021 for the OnePlus 9 Pro.

In addition to the brand's own orange trigger button, or the iconic "click-clack" sound when shooting, it is on the software part of the smartphone that the Scandinavian brand brings its signature.

Working well with a processor entirely dedicated to photo and video (the MariSilicon X chip), this association allows the Find X5 Pro to produce images of remarkable quality, both in daylight and in low light where the digital noise of photos remains almost invisible.

A disappointing zoom, but…

Regret: while Samsung draws an optical zoom of up to 10x on its new Galaxy S22 Ultra, Oppo is satisfied with a simple 2x optical zoom.

It's not much, but the Find X5 Pro's up to 20x digital zoom can still deliver stunning results.

How? 'Or' What ?

The smartphone's five-axis stabilization makes it possible to compensate for the effects of zooming (shaking) with images with impeccable autofocus, even at high magnification...

To our knowledge, this is the first time that this type of stabilization, well known in the world of SLR cameras, has been used on a smartphone.

Beware of the ultra wide-angle which, if it is very practical in front of a monument, creates deformations which are not always joyful.

In 13 megapixels, the selfies remain beautifully made, the Portrait mode succeeding in cutting hair and beard well to blur the back of the subject in a homogeneous way.

80W charger included

Weighted with a 5,000 mAh battery, the Find X5 Pro offers a good day of autonomy, no more.

The device is compatible with 80W wired charging and, guess what, Oppo provides the power supply in the box!

Enough to fully recharge it in 46 minutes.

This is a significant difference with Samsung and its Galaxy S22 Ultra, also equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery and compatible with 45 W fast charging, but without a supplied charger.

During the presentation of its Find X5 Pro at

20 Minutes

, Oppo also mentioned the integration of a technology called Battery Health Engine.

This would double the battery life.

“Today the standard is 80% of the battery capacity retained after 800 charge cycles.

There, we go to 1,600 cycles ”, we specify at Oppo France.

1,300 euro…

Let's hope that this promise will be kept, because at 1,300 euros (in 256 GB), the Find X5 Pro is one of the most expensive smartphones in the market.

With a repairability index announced at 8.4, the new terminal should also inspire confidence in its potential buyers as to its durability.

1,300 euros… This seems to have become the norm for premium smartphones.

A price out of reach for most, and which can seriously chill.

It's hard to imagine getting such a toy without going through an operator offer...

Perhaps an alternative to afford a monster of power and a champion in the photo: Google's Pixel 6 Pro, which, at 899 euros (128 GB) can easily stand comparison with the best.

In the meantime, Oppo's strategy is clear: continue to make a name for itself on quality with high-end and high-performance smartphones, and better attract buyers to cheaper models to nibble market share from its competitors.

On pre-order from March 9, the Find X5 Pro will be delivered on March 24.

* Rear: 50 megapixel sensor (wide-angle; f/1.7) + 50 megapixel sensor (ultra wide-angle; f/2.2) + 13 megapixel sensor (2x optical zoom/f/2.4).

Front: 32 megapixel sensor (f/2.4).
