The Seoul Metropolitan Government has decided to remove the 35-story ceiling height regulation that has been uniformly applied to residential buildings for the past 10 years.

As a result, it became possible to build high-rise apartment buildings again in residential areas in Seoul including the Han River.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced the '2040 Seoul Urban Basic Plan' at the Seoul City Hall.

The urban master plan is the highest statutory plan in accordance with the 'National Land Planning and Utilization Act' and serves as a guideline for various urban planning.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has decided to delete the height standard specified in the previous '2030 Seoul Urban Basic Plan' from this plan.

The city decided to abolish it in the 2040 plan, believing that this height regulation led to a uniform skyline along the Han River.

In the future, it is a policy to induce a colorful skyline by allowing floor heights according to local conditions at the stage of deliberation of individual maintenance plans.

However, the floor height limit for apartments adjacent to the Han River will be maintained at 15 floors, and the floor area ratio will not be relaxed.

The city plans to establish a consensus with the government, academia, and experts, and promote legislation such as revision of the National Land Planning Act through public debate.
