A man in his 50s who assaulted a taxi driver indiscriminately at the request to use another taxi has been sentenced to prison.

The Ulsan District Court's 6th Criminal Division (Judge Kim Do-young) announced today (3rd) that it had sentenced A, who was charged with personal injury, property damage, fraud, and theft, to one year and six months in prison and a fine of 600,000 won.

A was handed over to trial for assaulting a taxi driver B in his 60s in front of a restaurant in Ulsan last October.

At that time, Mr. A took Mr. B's taxi to his destination, said he had business to do at the restaurant, and stopped the car, and he said to Mr. B, "Wait."

Mr. A, who was doing chores, got angry and hit Mr. B's neck, face, and chest when Mr. B asked, "If it takes a long time, please use another taxi."

A also threw B's cell phone into a nearby sewer and forcibly ripped out a taxi black box worth 620,000 won.

Separately, Mr. A is charged with not paying for using two other taxis, and for not paying for food and alcohol worth a total of 160,000 won at two restaurants.

Person A was also tried on charges of committing seven thefts and one attempted theft between October and November last year.

The court explained the reason for the sentencing, saying, "Even though the accused has a history of being punished for several crimes in the past, he committed multiple crimes during repeated offences, and severe punishment is inevitable."
