Madrid Fusión The "priceless" menu of 16 dishes that Robert de Niro has enjoyed in Madrid: "You don't know how he herded"
"It was a delight to see him eat," the chefs have assured.
"You don't know how he sliced each dish with bread, he asked us for more, which has freaked us out because it was a fairly complete menu," Martin Berasategui was excited about
Robert de Niro
's reaction to eating the most expensive menu in the world designed by five of the best chefs in the world: the Argentine
Mauro Colagreco
and the Spaniards
Joan Roca
,
Quique Dacosta
,
José Andrés
and
Martín Berasategui
.
The American actor, producer, director and businessman accepted the challenge of being an ambassador for the
20th Anniversary of Madrid Fusión
in exchange for enjoying a menu valued at 300,000 euros.
"He would get up from the table, come to the small kitchen to see how we prepared the dishes, he would ask us how they were made and what each product was, he would record everything on video.
I have never seen anyone enjoy the way he did in my life
, It has been spectacular to be able to cook for him and his partner", explained
Quique Dacosta
.
To understand the reason for this food, we must go back to last year's edition of the
Madrid Fusión
fair , when, through social networks, they launched a challenge to the Hollywood star: promote the edition of the gastronomic congress of this 2022 in exchange for a "priceless" meal by five of the best chefs in the world.

But what did the menu have, in addition to being designed by the best chefs in the world to be a "priceless" menu, a scandalous menu.
The exclusive meal took place at the
Mandarin Oriental Ritz
, specifically in the royal suite of the historic Madrid hotel, which opened in 1910 and which reopened its doors a year ago after its biggest renovation in 110 years.
The lunch, which consisted of
16 passes with six appetizers, eight main courses and two desserts
, included some of the most valuable gastronomic products in Spain, in which the Cinco Jotas Iberian ham from the 2018 vintage stood out. During the tasting of the menu , the actor showed his facet as
a master cutter
, learning some tips on how to cut
a Cinco Jotas 100% Iberian ham
and even dared to cut it himself.

Other products that the actor was able to enjoy were the
Denia and Palamós
range , bluefin tuna, asparagus, hake, eel, rice, black truffle, Albufera duck or caviar.
As mains they served
contesa of white asparagus and truffle and shrimp marinated in rice vinegar
(Roca);
Caramelized smoked eel millefeuille, foie gras, spring onion and green apple and hake tacos with 'kokotxas'
,
coffee emulsion and paprika flakes (Berasategui);
beetroot with Osciètre caviar sauce
(Colagreco);
strawberries with cream and sea urchin and smoked eels with tear peas
(Andrés) and
Senia rice between ashes of truffle and Dénia red prawn
boiled in sea water (Dacosta).

As desserts and finishing touches, orange
blossom from Colagreco
and dulce de leche, sheep's milk ice cream, sheep's curd foam, sheep's yoghurt and cloud, from
Roca
.
All this paired with the best wines:
Don Perignon Plenitud 2
, 2003.
Pinot Noir
,
Chardonnay
and
Pinot Meunier AOC Champagne
"We wanted a good image of this country to be taken away and the wines have lived up to it", explained
José Carlos Capel
, director of Madrid Fusión, who has thus paid the actor for having sponsored the 2021 edition of the gastronomic congress.
"We all thought that he was not going to finish it, the menu itself was already a challenge, because they were forceful dishes, but each and
every one of the dishes returned to the kitchen empty and sliced
, and he has even told us that what was left over that we keep it for him that he wanted to take it at another time," Roca said with a laugh.
