What is your favorite excursion?

This is the question of the recent macro-survey carried out by Lonely Planet Spain to the more than 110,000 users of its Instagram account (@lonelyplanet_es), in which they proposed 32 different itineraries in places throughout Spain.

The Cíes Islands

have been the big winners as the

ideal place to take a day trip

, with the support of 61% of the more than 35,000 travelers participating in the survey, who voted in a competition based on elimination rounds (quarter-finals, semi-finals , final...).

The Galician archipelago, located at the mouth of the Vigo estuary, won the final over the route that runs between

Sant Tomás and Son Xoriguer, on the south coast of Menorca,

which obtained 39% of the votes.

Cadaqués, the Ordesa canyon (Huesca Pyrenees), the Cares route (Picos de Europa), Mulhacén, the Carlos V route (Extremadura), Cazorla, the Fuente De cable car (Cantabria) or the volcanoes of la Garrotxa (Gerona), among others, were some of the 32 itineraries proposed in the survey, taken from the practical guide

Cies Island

Nosa Señora Beach, Cíes Islands.

The spectacular archipelago of the Galician Rías Baixas forms part, together with the islands of Ons, Sálvora and Cortegada, of

the National Park of the Atlantic Islands

, one of the 15 of this category that exist in Spain

.

Protected for its enormous natural value, it can only be accessed by boat, through maritime transport services or private boat,

with free prior authorization

here.

(ferry price: from 20 euros).

Being a protected space, access to the park is currently limited to 1,800 daily visitors, plus 600 campers,

Once there, a multitude of marked trails run through the unspoiled landscape, free of motorized traffic, on the islands.

The two main ones, Faro and Monteagudo, linked together by the spectacular

Rodas beach

, are the most popular for hiking.

A circular circuit of about 15 km, starting and ending at the aforementioned beach (at one of its ends is the ferry dock), passing by lighthouses, vestiges of the Bronze Age, such as the Castro das Hortas, remains of monasteries medieval, beaches of fine white sand, coves with turquoise waters, cliffs, caves... It is also an ideal place for lovers of ornithology, since many birds nest on these islands.

One of the best spots for this is in the Peito lighthouse.

From

Sant Tomás and Son Xoriguer

In the southern part of the island of Menorca is located this coastal route of about 25 km (one way) of moderate difficulty and about 10 hours long that has been placed as the second favorite among the travelers of Lonely Planet Spain.

The effort is worth it, as it runs through wonderful landscapes of sheer cliffs, pine and oak forests and, above all, through coves of white sand and turquoise waters, where stopping to take a bath or rest is a must.

Cala Galdana, Minorca.

The starting point is at

Binicodrell beach

, in the town of Sant Tomàs, about 27 km from Ciudadela, and heads west until reaching the large Son Xoriguer beach, very close to the Cala en Bosch marina.

In between, viewpoints and some of the most popular coves in the south of Menorca, such as the well-known

Cala Macarelleta.
