Amid the worldwide condemnation of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, demands for a 'degree revocation' are rising as it is belatedly known that Russian President Vladimir Putin, who led the war, received a doctorate degree from Yongin University in the past.

As of today (28th), if you search for President Putin's profile on a Korean portal site, his final academic background is 'Honorary Doctor of Graduate School of Yongin University'.

His educational background states that he was awarded a BA in International Law from the University of St. Petersburg in 1975 and a PhD in Economics in 1997.

It is said that in 2010, Yongin University conferred the 'Honorary Doctor of Judo Science'.

In fact, it was confirmed that in 2010, President Putin received an honorary doctorate in Judo from Yongin University while he was in office as Russian Prime Minister.

At the time, Yongin University said, "Prime Minister Putin is conferring an honorary doctorate for the first time in the world in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Korea and Russia in appreciation for his contribution to the development of the international sports world and to the exchange and development of sports culture between Korea and Russia."

On the Yongin University website, there was a picture of Putin receiving an honorary doctorate from Yongin University, but it is currently not available.

President Putin, who started judo at the age of 11, is a judo enthusiast enough to say, "I met judo when I was a bad youth, and my life has changed." At that time, he received an honorary 7th Dan from the Korean Judo Association.

Domestic netizens who heard the news responded, "Putin is a war maker. Yongin University, please cancel the honorary doctorate given to Putin" and "He doesn't want to be associated with a war maker."

Meanwhile, the judo world has gone out of business with President Putin.

The International Judo Federation (IJF) issued a statement on the 27th and said, "In consideration of the war conflict in Ukraine, the qualifications of President Putin, the honorary president and honorary ambassador of the IJF, are suspended."
