The existence of a parental control system should soon be mandatory in all smartphones, PCs and tablets sold in France.

As

reveals , a law to this effect was adopted by the National Assembly on Tuesday.

After a final review in the Senate on Thursday, it should come into force in the coming months.

For the deputy (LREM) Bruno Studer, it is an "additional tool to try to make life easier for parents".

It will be imposed on all devices with a screen and an Internet connection sold in France.

Parental controls will not be enabled by default.

This task will be at the discretion of the parent, who in any case will have this possibility.

The porn industry singled out

This measure is part of the showdown initiated by France against pornographic sites.

Many of them are accused of not sufficiently protecting minors from their content.

In December 2021, the CSA gave an ultimatum to the X giants to introduce an age verification system, and brandished the threat of blocking by Internet service providers (ISPs).

During the initial configuration of the device, the existence of parental controls must be indicated, as with each reset to factory settings.

The legislative arsenal is being strengthened to better control the pornographic industry, which continues to be accused of a “lawless zone” by many activists.
