A 40-year-old man who beat and insulted a police officer while intoxicated was sentenced to death by a court.

Today (24th), Chuncheon District Court Detective 1 (Judge Jang Tae-young) sentenced A (40), who was charged with obstructing the execution of official duties and insulting him, to 1 year and 4 months in prison.

Person A was handed over to trial on charges of assaulting and swearing at a police officer belonging to the district corps, who was dispatched to Chuncheon around 11 pm on January 25 last year.

On this day, Mr. A is accused of swearing at the police officer who was dispatched several times, saying, "You don't listen unless you curse" and "Did you become a police officer because you were ignorant?"

In addition, Mr. A is also accused of obstructing the proper execution of duties by the police, such as pinching or hitting the dispatched police officer, and kicking his whole body.

At the trial, Mr. A denied the allegation of insult and claimed that he was in a state of infirmity and loss of mind while drunk at the time of the crime, but the court did not accept this.

The court pointed out, "Mr. A resisted the legitimate exercise of public power by using violence and swearing at two police officers who were dispatched to the scene after receiving the 112 report, and showed an attitude of contempt for the criminal justice process." "I expressed my intention to require severe punishment for the accused."

However, he explained the reason for his sentencing, saying, "I have suffered from a psychiatric medical history such as depression, and I need related treatment."
