A 30-year-old man who asked his younger brother to give false testimony to avoid drunk driving punishment has been sentenced to prison.

The Incheon District Court's 6th Criminal Division (Judge Nam Seung-min) announced today (23rd) that a 30-year-old man accused of perjury was sentenced to 4 months in prison.

On June 4, last year, Mr. A called his younger brother, Mr. B, and asked him to "appear as a witness and state that he drove my car at dawn on the day of the incident." .

At the request of his older brother, Mr. B appeared in Mr. A's drunk driving trial held on June 17 of the same year and gave false testimony that he was driving at the time.

When the prosecutor asked Mr. B, "The person who reported the report was suspicious of drunk driving because the Mercedes-Benz car was driving abnormally, why did he drive like that?" He lied, saying, "I think he was driving while looking at his cell phone."

Previously, Mr. A was handed over to trial on the charge of driving while intoxicated (drunk driving) around 2 am on October 9, 2020.

Mr. A, who had a history of being punished for drunk driving four times in the past, was found to have asked his younger brother to make a false statement, judging that he would receive a heavy sentence if caught again.

The court said, "The accused is of very poor quality in that he has disrupted the judicial order, such as perjuring his younger brother for fear of receiving severe punishment."

On the other hand, Mr. A was sentenced to two years in prison at the first trial in August last year for drunk driving, but after confessing at the appeals trial in December, his sentence was reduced to one year and six months in prison.

If the 4 months of imprisonment sentenced on the charge of perjury is finally confirmed, Mr. A will be sentenced to a total of 1 year and 10 months in prison in addition to the sentence for drunk driving.
