▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: Welcome.

Nice to meet you.

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: Hello?

▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: Have a seat.

Viewers, did you just check who came into Joo Young-jin's news briefing studio?

The Beijing Winter Olympics are over.

What kind of athletes come to mind when you think of the Winter Olympics?

Many of you may remember Yuna Kim, who pioneered a new origin of figure skating.

Let's talk with Yuna Kim.

Welcome to.

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: Hello?

▷ Young-Jin Joo/Anchor: I am used to the word Yuna Kim, so I expressed it like this, how about it?

Are you more familiar with the term “player” these days?

▶ Kim Yuna/Former figure skater: I've been playing since I was little, so many people call me a player, so I'm not a player now, but you can call me a player if you like.

▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: How many years have you been as an athlete?

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: I think I did it for 17 or 18 years.

▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: 17 years, 18 years.

How about, you must have watched the Beijing Winter Olympics on TV this time.

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: This time, I watched all the matches from the perspective of the viewer and cheered, but the athletes of all sports also got good results and there were some players who got disappointing results, but it seems that they cheered with one mind again, especially This is the first time the figure skaters have made four appearances in a single.

So it was very emotional and new, and all my friends worked hard to see me since I was young, but now that they are all grown up, it was so proud and wonderful to see them competing in the Olympics.

▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: There are players in golf who are called 'Pak Se-ri Kids'.

There are players who dreamed of becoming a golf player after seeing Se-ri Pak's match. I wonder if Yoo Young and Kim Ye-rim could be called 'Kim Yuna Kids' in figure skating in that sense, but don't you both know them well?

▶ Kim Yuna/Former figure skater: I knew it very well from a young age, and now after becoming a national team player, I paid more attention to it.

So while I was realizing the age difference, I was so surprised that they started skating around the time I was thinking of retiring.

▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: Since Yuna Kim is coming out today, I have a question that I always want to ask.

I heard the question, 'I heard that Yuna Kim personally recommended Yerim Kim's short program 'Dream of Love'. Is there a reason for that?

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: It wasn't for a great reason.

Now, when the players prepare for a new season after the season is over, we do music together, so we think about new concepts, new music, and what style of music we want, and then we get recommendations again and again.

I also got recommendations from choreographers and people around me, but Yerim said, 'Unnie, is there any good music?'

I asked for a recommendation, so I looked for it too, and he suggested that this song might be a song that could highlight Yerim's strengths more. It is actually very important to find a song that can hide your weaknesses and highlight your strengths.

▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: Regarding the story about the Beijing Winter Olympics, if I have time, I'll ask you again later.

Actually, there is a reason we have Kim Yuna today.

Although it is a similar event to the Beijing Winter Olympics, you served as an ambassador for a very different but very meaningful event.

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: The Winter Youth Olympic Games will be held in Gangwon-do in 2024.

The Winter Youth Olympics may be unfamiliar to many people, but it is also a competition hosted by the IOC and hosted by world-class youth, and since 2012, the Winter Games started in Innsbruck.

What is slightly different from the adult Olympics is that competition is competitive because young athletes participate, but there is also a difference in that they are harmonious with each other and put more importance on cultural and educational programs.

▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: The Winter Youth Olympics will be held in Gangwon Province two years later.

Then at the same time, around February?

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: From January 19th to February 1st, 2024, it will be held in Gangneung, Pyeongchang, Hoengseong, and Jeongseon in Gangwon-do, using the same facilities as the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

▷ Young-Jin Joo/Anchor: When it comes to the Winter Youth Olympics, will athletes from countries of the same size as those participating in the Winter Olympics in the world participate?

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: Usually most of the games held at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics will be held.

It is said that about 1,900 players participate, and strangely, the ratio of female and male players is the same, 950 each.

▷ Young-Jin Joo/Anchor: Most of the countries that have hosted the Winter Olympics in the past will do the Youth Winter Olympics because there will be the stadium facilities.

right?

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: That's right.

Since the games are held almost identically to the adult Olympics, facilities must be provided.

Since the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics were held just a few years ago, I think it would be good to use the facility again as it is.

▷ Young-Jin Joo/Anchor: The Youth Winter Olympics, in English, it seems to be called the Youth Olympics, but the 2012 Innsbruck Games was the first competition, right?

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: Innsbruck was the first Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2012.

▷ Young-Jin Joo/Anchor: Since then, the IOC and the International Olympic Committee asked Yuna Kim to act as a public relations ambassador?

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: I was with you at the 2012 Innsbruck Youth Winter Olympics and the next Olympics, the Lillehammer Youth Winter Olympics.

▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: Are the photos you are going out from the 2012 Lillehammer Youth Olympics?

I saw it a while ago

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: I think it was a promotional video back then.

▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: And in 2016, the person on the right is a very familiar person.

Bach is the Chairman of the IOC.

Then the Winter Youth Olympic Games will be started with a very strong will by the IOC, right?

The IOC president himself also took pictures with Yuna Kim.

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: So, it's a youth event, but it's the Olympics.

Because of the weight given by the name of the Olympics, I think it must be an event of a level that is almost equal to the adult Olympics.

▷ Young-Jin Joo/Anchor: Then, even if you look at the Winter Olympic Games right now at the Winter Youth Winter Olympics, aren't many young and non-adult players participating?

Then, the age of the athletes participating in the Winter Olympics and the Winter Youth Olympics may be a little similar, but there must have been cases where athletes participating in the Winter Youth Olympics also grow into athletes in the Winter Olympics, then?

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: Since the Youth Olympics are played by athletes between the ages of 15 and 18, I think there are probably athletes who can compete in the adult Olympics overlap.

▷ Young-Jin Joo/Anchor: I think it was a competition that did not exist yet when Yuna Kim was her age.

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: That's right.

▷ Young-Jin Joo/Anchor: This time, the Gangwon-do Winter Youth Olympic Games will be held again centered on Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do.

Do you travel to different countries to promote and encourage participation in competitions?

Meet other local players.

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: At the last two Youth Olympic Games, I personally went to the torch relay, hoisted the ring flag, and participated in such opening ceremonies. Since it is a competition held in Korea, I think there may be more parts for me to participate in.

▷ Young-Jin Joo/Anchor: Young players who are dreaming of watching Yuna Kim, I don’t think it’s just Korean players.

There are a lot of athletes who have been figure skating in foreign countries and have dreams of 'I will become a great national team and win a medal in the Winter Olympics.' You must have met many other athletes around the world.

How is it?

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: Well.

There is a big age gap between the players who are coming out and growing these days, me and I.

To those players, I may be a very old player, but fortunately, many players also watch my videos a lot and think of me as a player they like a lot, so I am very grateful. I think it's a really happy thing for me because I have the opportunity.

▷ Young-jin Joo/Anchor: Yuna Kim also gave a news briefing of Joo Young-jin directly related to the Gangwon-do Winter Youth Olympic Games. I heard that a special program related to this will be broadcast soon.

▶ Yuna Kim/former figure skater: Tomorrow at 6:10 pm, '2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics Special

▶ Yuna Kim/former figure skater: The road we are on' is the title of the story about the Winter Youth Olympics and the host city of Gangwon-do. It consists of a story, and as an ambassador, I also asked for a narration, so I think my voice will go out a little bit too.

▷ Young-Jin Joo/Anchor: The Winter Olympics, which will be broadcast through SBS tomorrow at 6:10 pm, not only the Winter Olympics, but also the Winter Youth Olympics, SBS, are hot again, right?

All right.

Yuna Kim was very active at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics 4 years ago in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province.

I think you must have played the role of a public relations ambassador at that time to introduce Gangwon-do and the Republic of Korea by meeting the athletes from all over the world, how would you like it?

Pyeongchang, Jeongseon, Gangneung, Gangwon-do, Republic of Korea This region hosts the Winter Olympics, and in the future, the same competition as the Winter Olympics will also be held this time as well as the Winter Youth Olympics.

You must have visited the local area by yourself, but how was it?

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: I guess the weather is quite important to hold a winter sports event, so my sports indoors doesn't have much of an impact, but now there are quite a few events like that where there is snow, so Gangwon-do is probably like that. The Pyeongchang Winter Olympics were held successfully and without much controversy because they had certain conditions suitable for holding the event.

So, I think this youth Olympics will be a very cool event.

▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: When did Yuna Kim first dream of becoming a figure skater?

What was the trigger?

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: At first, I just started as a hobby.

Now, my sister and my family were having fun as a special vacation class, but a teacher suggested to my parents, 'I have a talent', 'I see a different side', and 'Would you like to raise me as a player?' I think I got to walk.

▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: How old were you?

▶ Kim Yuna/Former figure skater: 7 years old in Korean age.

▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: 7 years old.

A 7-year-old can have a dream.

However, we do not know until that dream becomes a reality. We only remember how Yuna Kim is doing so well, but at times like this, we also regret that Yuna Kim is injured or is psychologically withdrawn or that I have chosen this path for nothing. In fact, we do not know very well, do we?

But I think that time is probably similar to the age of the athletes who will participate in the Winter Youth Olympic Games.

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: That's right.

I actually started at a very young age, so I don't know how difficult or difficult this might be, but it was fun to ride, but as I got older, I had a lot of difficulties psychologically and physically.

So, like you said at the time, I was like, 'Oh, really, why do I have to start doing this and have such a hard life?' and my condition fluctuates and my injuries hurt here and then when it gets better, it hurts here again, and that was repeated every day.

So it was really hard to train and cry every day at that time, but since that period is now the age of the athletes participating in the Youth Olympic Games, it is probably the athletes who train with a lot of difficulties.

So, I think that if there was a youth Olympics at that time, I would think about what kind of mindset I would have again.

▷ Young-Jin Joo/Anchor: In Korea, like Russia, the United States, or Europe, there was no player I would make a role model for in figure skating.

There is no player close to me to imitate, and there is no player close to me who can advise me.

▶ Kim Yuna/Former figure skater: Actually, when I was young, I watched the 1998 Nagano Olympics and saw an American athlete named Michelle Kwan.

▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: Michelle Kwan.

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: I thought it was really cool, so I recorded an overseas video, watched it back and imitated it.

So, even if it is not a player from the same country, it would not be bad to dream of becoming like that player by receiving new stimulation from other players, those who show a certain kind of performance in the style I like.

▷ Young-Jin Joo/Anchor: And another thought, in the domestic competition, Yuna Kim was recognized for her unrivaled skill, so I think there were other concerns.

Maybe this is me and my skills will work on the international stage as well.

So, I wonder if participating in the first international competition is probably deeply engraved in Yuna Kim's heart.

▶ Kim Yuna/Former figure skater: Now, for the first time, I went to the International Skating Federation for the first time when I was a junior.

At that time, I had an injury and my training didn't go my way, so my family and I said, 'Let's just go out and quit this tournament.'

But I went to that competition and got first place, and I got really unexpectedly good results, so I think I had a mindset like, 'I have no choice but to go down this road.'

So, to be honest, when I was training only in Korea, it was the first time I competed without expecting or thinking about what international level I would be.

So I don't think there was such a concept as I would win a medal, a few, etc.

▷ Young-jin Joo/Anchor: After the Winter Olympics, Cha Jun-hwan came out and interviewed me once, but this time anyway, Korean figure skating has the best performance after Kim Yuna.

In the case of female players, two players, Yoo Young and Kim Ye-rim were included in the top 10, and in the top 10, Cha Jun-hwan also ranked 5th in the world.

Aren't we really proud of our juniors?

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: Now, isn't it a bit difficult to achieve good results compared to athletes from powerful countries?

So, when I see hard-working players, I feel a bit sad and like that, but I think I’ve gained some confidence that I don’t have to worry about that anymore.

He kept his skills good enough to go beyond that, and in fact, the training environment probably wasn't that good because of the corona virus.

They were players who had to train abroad, and despite the fact that they had to stay in Korea and had many difficulties, it is not easy to do everything they can confidently in this big game. I wanted to

▷ Young-Jin Joo/Anchor: I am interviewing Yuna Kim in such a close place right now, and I think we must have shuddered together while watching the scenes of the athletes at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Before jumping, we did something like this together.

How is it?

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: When I was a player, my coaches and parents said it would be nice if I could just stand and watch when I was playing, but after I retired, I got really nervous watching the matches of my juniors.

For nothing, if I look at it, I feel like I will fall, I think I will make a mistake, and when I was at the Olympics, my parents said that I could not sit and watch, so I stood and watched it.

But he seemed to understand his heart.

So once again, when the players start, I think I felt the tension a lot when I watched it at home and then got up from the sofa to watch it.

▷ Young-Jin Joo/Anchor: After the Beijing Winter Olympics, Yuna Kim cheered and applauded as if she was running in the field, but there were also sad scenes.

There were various reasons such as talking about the judgment, but didn't our junior players overcame them fairly resolutely and did their best until the end?

I remember that Yuna Kim certainly had that experience during the Sochi Olympics.

He thought it was all gold medals, but he couldn't.

However, Yuna Kim was also determined, and this time, her juniors were also determined.

That's the spirit of the Olympics, and I think that's what Yuna Kim wants to say the most to the athletes participating in the Gangwon-do Winter Youth Olympic Games.

How about 'the spirit of never giving up until the end'?

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: Because there is a spirit of sports that all athletes and people who love sports know and believe in, both those who do and those who watch can feel and empathize with such competitions. This time, especially, the Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games, as young athletes participate, I hope that such a game that will remain as a good memory for the athletes can be successfully held.

▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: I see.

Athletes have dreams, do not give up on their dreams, do their best, and it is the adults, the International Olympic Committee, and senior athletes like Yuna Kim who make it possible for such athletes to achieve fair results.

I really enjoyed listening to you today.

Now, as we wrap up our interview with Yuna Kim, beautiful music is playing in Joo Young-jin's news briefing studio.

Do you remember what kind of music it is?

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: This is the music I used on the last day of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

It seems to be music that many people remember as a good image.

▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: In that last scene, after the game, there must have been those gestures and movements.

You remember, of course?

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: I can't remember that moment because I'm really too busy, but I remember it with a video.

▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: The screen is going out now.

I feel like crying, maybe even crying.

▶ Kim Yuna/Former figure skater: I think I cried.

I think tears came out.

I think it must have been tears of relief.

▷ Young-Jin Joo/Anchor: I remember seeing the scene of Yuna Kim's game at that time with tears in her eyes, and the Korean people all wrung their hearts with one mind.

Looking at Yuna Kim’s very appearance, many players must be nurturing their dreams.

Yuna Kim, what is your dream for the future?

Will Yuna Kim continue her career with the figure skating Olympics in the future?

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: It seems that many people still remember the Olympics, but until they remember it, I think I will be with the Olympics and sports, especially figure skating.

In the near future, I hope that I will be able to show my image to many people through the activities of the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games.

▷ Youngjin Joo/Anchor: Viewers would think it was really good to see Yuna Kim on the screen after a long time.

I hope that many people will pay attention to the 2024 Gangwon-do Winter Youth Olympic Games, which Yuna Kim actively promotes.

Yuna Kim, I really enjoyed listening to you today.

▶ Yuna Kim/Former figure skater: Thank you.

▷ Young-Jin Joo/Anchor: With the interview with Yuna Kim, Joo Young-Jin's news briefing will end today's order.

Thank you to everyone who watched.
