There have been complaints from consumers about 'Kakao Taxi', which accounts for 90% of the taxi-calling app market, whether it is choosing customers based on their destination and picking them up.

During the day after lunch break, people using the Kakao Taxi app stand out.

[Hong Seong-il / Seocho-gu, Seoul: (Are you able to catch it well?) Blue or not, it seems to be hard to catch, but even if you go a short distance, you can't catch the general...

.]

The Seoul Metropolitan Government personally checked it.

For two months from October of last year, investigators acted as passengers and tried to call Kakao Taxi 841 times. The success rate of calling 'within 3km from downtown to non-city center during weekday nights' was only 23%.

On the other hand, the success rate of long-distance dispatch over 10km was 54%, which was more than twice as high.

The number of short-distance passengers having difficulty calling a taxi on weekday nights is supported by the figures.

[Ahn Ki-jeong / Research Fellow, Transportation System Lab, Seoul Research Institute: Generally, short-distance taxis are often wanted.

There is actually such a problem being raised.]

We also investigated the suspicion of driving calls to Kakao affiliated taxis, which is a complaint of the taxi industry.

[Kim Yunsoo/Taxi Driver: If it sounds like a good call, Kakao Mobility asks if your own company has another directly managed company.

From a distance, the good thing is that they have their own direct management company assigned to them and there is something like that.] When I

called a regular taxi, a Kakao affiliated taxi was dispatched in 4 out of 10 cases.

In particular, for calls from the city center to the city center on weekend mornings with fewer passengers, 86% of affiliate taxis were dispatched.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government, however, is of the position that an additional investigation is necessary for the so-called 'call driving' suspicion as the dispatch algorithm has not been confirmed.

Kakao Mobility said that it is reviewing the data released by the city of Seoul and will release its position on the 24th.
