A man accused of stealing equipment from journalists was tried on Tuesday in Lille and sentenced to two years in prison.

His modus operandi consisted of stealing all kinds of equipment, cameras, computers or batteries on the train from journalists, for damage estimated at 60,000 euros according to investigators.

A man who had stolen tens of thousands of euros worth of cameras and various equipment from journalists on trains was sentenced to two years in prison on Monday in Lille, police and the wooden floor.

After several successive complaints during the first half of February, the police identified thanks to video surveillance this individual who arrived empty-handed at Lille station and left with full hands, indicated the Urban Security.

Damage estimated at 60,000 euros

This 34-year-old man was arrested at Lille Europe station on February 17.

He spotted the journalists and boarded the train just before departure to come out immediately with the luggage.

This technique allowed him to steal cameras, lights, batteries and computers All for an estimated amount, over this period alone, at 60,000 euros, according to a police source.

On December 14, he was suspected of having stolen a journalist's camera, while the latter was traveling by train to Paris.

A camera estimated at 8,000 euros.

Tried on Monday in immediate appearance, he was sentenced to two years in prison and imprisoned, the Lille prosecutor's office told AFP.
