A 12-year-old girl died in a fall of a hundred meters on Sunday, during a snowshoe hike in the Vercors.

The German was on an outing with her host family at the time.

Aged 12 and from Dresden, she "made a fatal fall of about a hundred meters", during this hike in the afternoon at Col Vert (1,766 m), in the town of Saint-Paul -de-Varces, in Isère.

"She slipped on the slope and no obstacle held her back," said prosecutor Eric Vaillant in a press release, who entrusted the investigation to the CRS Alpes.

The young girl was on this outing with her French host family, the parents and their daughter, originally from Puy-de-Dôme.

"The police must meet the victim's parents today," the prosecution also said.
