The fire broke out in Hwacheon-ri, Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, today (16th) around 4 am.

The wildfire that was extinguished yesterday seems to have rekindled, and the fire has been spreading at a frightening speed until now, 15 hours later.

In Yeongdeok, the instantaneous maximum wind speed is reaching 10m/s in a strong wind advisory.

In addition to this, a drying advisory has been issued, and the dried leaves act as a spark, and the embers are carried by the wind for several kilometers.

In addition, the terrain at the site of the wildfire is very rough, making it difficult for firefighting vehicles and personnel to access.

In particular, as the fire approached a nearby village, more than 300 residents, including Hwasu-ri, Yeongdeok-gun, were evacuated.

In addition, at least 100 hectares of forest land have been burned so far.

Currently, the 3rd stage of forest fire response, which is the highest level, has been issued at the site.

36 helicopters, fire trucks, and 1,000 personnel were deployed, but the Forest Service and fire departments withdrew the helicopters capable of extinguishing a wide area as the sun went down.

Instead, vehicles and manpower are put in to keep the fire from spreading further by building fire lines, etc., and continuing to evolve.

When the sun comes up tomorrow, the helicopter will be put back in and the large-scale firefighting will resume.
