A man in his 60s was caught by the police after he went upstairs with a hammer and made a riot.

According to the police today (14th), the Seoul Guro Police Station arrested a current criminal on the 11th on charges of special intimidation, Mr. A, in his 60s.

Person A is accused of going upstairs in an apartment in Guro-gu, Seoul at around 9:50 p.m. on the 11th for the purpose of retaliating for noise between floors, hitting the floor outside the front door with a hammer several times and shouting.

When the police received a report that 'a big fight broke out due to noise between floors', the police came to the scene and separated Mr. A from the victim.

After that, he recovered Mr. A's hammer and arrested him as a current criminal.

Person A is known to have stated in the police investigation that "the noise between floors continued for a long time, and I committed the crime with the thought of 'doing the same thing'."

A police official said, "We are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident against Mr. A, and we plan to send it to the prosecution as soon as the investigation is complete."

Conflicts over noise between floors are on the rise as the time spent at home increases after the spread of COVID-19.

According to the Korea Environment Corporation's Inter-Floor Noise Neighbor Center, the number of inter-floor noise reports in 2020 is 42,250, a 60% increase from 2019 (26,257 cases) before Corona 19.

Last year, the number of reports of noise between floors reached an all-time high of 46,596.
