An explosion occurred at a chemical plant in the Yeosu National Industrial Complex in Jeollanam-do, killing eight people or injuring them.

Today (11th) around 9:26 am, an explosion occurred at Yeocheon NCC Factory 3 in Yeosu National Industrial Complex, Hwachi-dong, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do.

So far, it has been identified that there were eight workers near the site of the explosion.

Of the 8 workers, 4 died, and 4 suffered serious or minor injuries and are being transported to the hospital.

An explosion did occur, but did not lead to a subsequent fire.

The fire department is dispatched to the scene to check if there are any additional casualties and is taking safety measures.

It is presumed that the accident occurred during a heat exchange tightness test (test) at the factory.

It was reported that an explosion occurred suddenly while the subcontractor's employees were putting pressure on the heat exchanger for a test run after cleaning it.

Yeocheon NCC is a company established by Hanwha and Daelim investing half of each of the naphtha cracking facilities (NCCs). It produces hundreds of tons of basic petrochemicals such as ethylene and propylene annually.

Another explosion occurred here on October 15, 2001, killing one person and injuring one person.
