A couple in their 70s, who were deceived by a voice phishing scammer in Busan and nearly lost 9 million won, prevented the damage with the persistent persuasion of a new police officer.

According to the Busan Dongnae Police Station today (8th), at around 10:48 am on the 7th (7th), a report from wife A was received at 112, saying, "My husband was deceived by the voice phishing crew and went out to withdraw money."

Police officers, including police officer Choi Woo-young of the Naeseong District Regiment, who received the report, arrived at the scene to reassure Mr. A and checked the contents of the report.

A said to the police, "I received a call to send money to my second son living in Seoul saying he was sick." "After receiving the call, my husband left the house, but there is no contact. I thought he went to withdraw money, so I called 112." said.

The police, who determined that it was voice phishing, requested a suspension of payment to A's husband B's account.

However, Mr. B had already withdrawn 9 million won from the bank.

Choi made several phone calls to find Mr. B, and within 20 minutes, she succeeded in talking to Mr. B.

However, Mr. B did not believe Choi's words, "Come home, your son is safe."

Choi and her colleagues persistently persuaded them by explaining the damage to the voice phishing, and finally, Mr. B, returned home at 11:50 am, an hour after reporting it.

Cash withdrawn from the bank remained in Mr. B's padded jumper pocket.

B's family held the policeman's hand and thanked him.

Choi, who helped Mr. B, was appointed last January after completing education at the Central Police Academy.

He said, "I was only thinking that if the call does not work with (B), 9 million won in the old couple's precious living expenses might go to the voice phishing crew."

This is a 'news pick'.
