The prison sentence was confirmed for a gang who sold 56 tons of pork neck that had to be discarded due to bacterial infection.

The first division of the Supreme Court (Chief Judge Roh Tae-ak) sentenced the head of a meat packaging company A (54), who was charged with violating the Livestock Products Sanitation Management Act, to 1 year and 6 months in prison and Director B (57), to 2 years in prison. It was announced today (6th) that it was confirmed.

C (49), a meat processing worker who was also brought to trial, was sentenced to one year in prison and two years of probation.

A and B bought 56 tons of pork neck from another meat packaging company from May 2017 to July 2018 at a low price and had to be discarded due to granuloma. was charged with one.

Mr. C took on the role of cutting out the pus part of the neck.

Granuloma is caused by bacterial infection, and is divided into purulent pus and non-purulent pus.

When pigs are vaccinated against foot-and-mouth disease, it can result from contamination of the needle or injection site, or from an immune response to the vaccine.

They argued in court that "it was not a 'harmful livestock' when consumers consumed it because it was sold after the pus part was removed," but it was not accepted.

The first and second trial judges pointed out, "The Livestock Products Sanitation Control Act prohibits the sale of livestock products that may harm human health."

The lower court judged the crimes to be of poor quality in view of the duration of the crime and the sales volume, and sentenced them to imprisonment.

However, it was reported that Mr. C was only in charge of grooming and did not play an active role in the overall crime, and was sentenced to probation.

The Supreme Court affirmed the punishment as it is, noting that there was no wrongdoing, such as a misunderstanding of the law, in this judgment.
