“Google” decides to cancel the tracking feature, which sparked a lot of controversy

Google has announced a new plan to stop the use of cookies to track users' browsing habits, after its previous proposals came under fire.

Major US tech companies are under tremendous pressure to overhaul the way they collect user data, and France has fined Google 150 million euros ($169 million) over its cookie policies.

Privacy campaigners strongly defend against the use of cookies, which often pass users' information to dozens of companies each time they visit a website.

But the files form the backbone of an online advertising industry that has proven extremely profitable for Google and its customers.

And “Sputnik” agency quoted the company as saying that it will test a new system called “Topics”, which protects privacy while continuing

Google Chrome users will continue to be tracked and the websites they visit and advertising partners will be given three topics - general topics that are supposed to match their interests - based on a user's browsing history.

The company explained that the entire process of creating topics will be done on the user's device, and even Google itself will not be able to access them, and advertisers will be able to keep topics for only three weeks, and Chrome users will have the option to opt out completely.
