BA.2 is the name of the new iteration of Covid-19, a member of the Omicron variant family.

The latter seems to be gaining ground, enough to cause concern even if as always it will take time to see more clearly.

The name BA.2 means that there is also a BA.1 variant.

These two sister lines are representatives of what is called

the Omicron variant

.

BA.1 is responsible for the epidemic outbreaks observed all over the planet in recent times.

But now, BA.2 is supplanting it.

We see that it is progressing in Denmark, the United Kingdom and even Germany.

Inevitably, a line of the

coronavirus

which takes precedence over another, this worries and this may indicate that it is more transmissible. Unfortunately, in this area, the data are still sorely lacking to be able to affirm or invalidate it and even more to quantify it. But already, laboratories around the world are running their machines to find out a little more.

Fortunately, even if the BA.2 line was indeed more transmissible, it is still part of the Omicron family.

The most likely hypothesis would therefore be that this would not fundamentally change the dynamics of the pandemic.

There would then not be the same progressions as during the passage from Delta to Omicron for example.

But again, only patience, research and time will provide the necessary answers.
