recent movie 'Spider-Man' is approaching 7 million viewers for the first time since Corona. It's been a while in the film industry, but the future of the theater community is still uncertain.

Reporter Lee Ju-hyeong covered the reasons and changes in the theater district.

Do you know the Dragon Amac?

As the nickname for movie fans to call the CGV Yongsan IMAX theater, it is the largest IMAX theater in Korea with a capacity of 600 seats with a screen measuring 31m in width and 22.4m in height.

'Spider-Man: No Way Home' was screened until the beginning of the week, and the seat sales rate for the first two weeks after opening was 44%, nearly double that of general theaters.

If you're going to the theater, you'll want to watch it in IMAX, even if it's a bit expensive.

[Lee Doo-hyun / Spectator (living in Changwon, Gyeongnam): Blockbuster-like movies have to come out this big to see them satisfactorily now... .]

The movie theater was encouraged when 'Spider-Man' drew in 6.7 million viewers, the largest number since Corona, despite the limited running time and seated space, but the industry outlook is still unclear.

The film industry, which faced the first crisis due to the popularization of TV in the 1950s, differentiated it from TV by increasing the screen from the Academy aspect ratio of 1.37:1 to the Cinemascope ratio of 2.35:1.

The second crisis is right now, due to the advent of Corona and OTT.

Instead of going to the theater, people are starting to get into the habit of watching movies on TV or mobile devices.

[Kim Hee-won / Audience: I watch Netflix, Watcha, or Disney Plus.

(Watch that much, rather than theaters?) Yes.]

CGV, the number one in the industry with over 1,300 screens, converted two existing theaters last week and turned them into climbing facilities.

They started to discover new business models by utilizing the high-rise theater space.

In addition, both CGV and Lotte Cinema, the second largest in the industry, are considering ways to gradually increase the number of special theaters, such as IMAX theaters and sound-specialized theaters, which still account for less than 10% of the total screens.

This is to give you a cinematic experience that can only be felt in the theater.

[Hwang Jae-hyeon/CJ CGV Communication Team Leader: After all, I am constantly thinking about what special value can be provided to customers that cannot be provided by TV or mobile.]

With Corona and OTT, a singularity has come to the film industry, the best entertainment industry in history.

It is also a challenge for modern people who have to watch the pouring content with their eyes open.

This is because a day has 24 hours.
