An Air Force fighter jet crashed during flight, killing the pilot.



According to the Air Force, an Air Force F-5E fighter with pilot A of the Air Force 10th Fighter Wing on board took off around 1:40 pm today and crashed while ascending.



The Air Force and the fire department said that Captain A was killed in the accident.

There were no explosives on the fighter, and it was confirmed that there were no civilian casualties as it crashed into the hills.



The F-5E fighter that crashed is a single-seater with one pilot and is known as the oldest fighter in the Korean Air Force.

In addition, since 2000, 12 of these vehicles have crashed in Korea alone and have been pointed out as a frequent accident model.



In 2003, an F-5E fighter jet crashed into a plastic house in Yecheon, North Gyeongsang Province, killing one pilot. In September of the same year, two fighter jets of the same type crashed into a mountain in Yeongdong, North Chungcheong Province, killing two pilots.



In March 2003, while performing a mission in the air near Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do, another two crashed, killing three pilots.

In September 2013, an F-5E aircraft during aerial intercept training crashed in Jeungpyeong, North Chungcheong Province.
