A full-term pregnant woman who was diagnosed with Corona gave birth in an ambulance two days ago due to lack of hospital beds.

Reporter Choi Seon-gil reports.

<Reporter> In

Yangju, Gyeonggi-do, a report came in about 0:50 a.m. on the 18th that a pregnant woman diagnosed with Corona 19 had started laboring.

The 119 paramedics who took pregnant women in an ambulance contacted 16 nearby corona-only hospitals, but the only answer was that there were no beds.

Due to the severe labor pains and the impossibility of delaying delivery, and the calm response of the paramedics, the mother gave birth to her baby safely in the ambulance.

[Maternal husband: Thank you, thank you so much for that part. I'll see you later and say hello.] The

mother and child, who were transferred to the emergency room of the Seoul Medical Center, were able to be assigned to a hospital dedicated to COVID-19 in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi-do, until 15 hours after delivery.

Fortunately, the baby tested negative for the corona virus.

However, a mother who is a COVID-19 patient is currently taking care of her baby in one ward.

This is because there is no neonatal room at the Corona 19 hospital in Pyeongtaek.

Both mothers and fathers are worried that the baby may become infected.

[Maternal husband: Please find a bed where you can receive treatment for your child. I have requested this right now, but for now there is no contact.]

How can a pregnant woman diagnosed with Corona 19 give birth when childbirth is imminent? , a situation where there is no prepared manual on how to protect the newborn.

[Kim Woo-joo/Professor of Infectious Diseases Department of Korea University Guro Hospital: I think that if a pregnant woman becomes infected in a situation in which (pregnant bed) is secured in advance, it is necessary to quickly transport and hospitalize the

pregnant woman

.]

They said that it was difficult to secure a bed because it had to be equipped with a delivery room or an intensive care unit, and they only responded that they would make an effort to secure an additional bed.
