The urban electric scooter disaster is the result of trying to fix problems by making them worse. The massive spread of the supposedly environmentally friendly disposable devices is supposed to be part of a traffic turnaround, as is stubbornly asserted. Unfortunately, they represent a disruptive factor wherever they stand or lie around, do not fit into the traffic structure, take up space that is already scarce, in pedestrian zones, underpasses, parks, green spaces, on sidewalks, streets, squares, bike paths, bridges. When you see how and by whom the e-scooters are used, the conclusion that benefits and annoyance are not in a favorable relationship. When business acumen meets the shortsightedness of the legislature and the transusiveness of the administration, you get thatwhat to see in cities and annoy citizens.

Some municipalities seem to be slowly waking up.

Limited parking areas are being discussed, for example in Frankfurt.

One of the five rental companies active in Frankfurt is now calling for car parking spaces to be rededicated for scooters, at least every 100 meters.

Interesting approach: So that two companies from California and one each from Berlin, Sweden and Estonia can do their business, the citizens should give up their urban areas.

In one of his famous “Mindful Murder” novels, author Karsten Dusse gets to the heart of the matter when his main character complains about a scooter rental company “who used the sidewalks I paid with my taxes as business premises free of charge.

One whose products littered the whole city. ”Why are they allowed to do so?

That is the key question.
