<Reporter> There were

7,102 new confirmed cases of Corona 19 yesterday (8th), recording the 7,000 level for two days in a row.

Excluding 20 imported cases, 7,82 people were infected in Korea.

5,418 people came from the metropolitan area and 1,664 people from non-metropolitan areas.

At the end of last month, the number of new confirmed cases climbed to the 4,000 level for the first time, and the number of new cases has risen to over 7,000 in two weeks.

The main infected are children and adolescents who have not received the vaccine and the elderly aged 60 years or older, where breakthrough infection occurs due to the ineffectiveness of the vaccine.

The major cause is the rapid increase in social activities such as private meetings after the phased recovery of daily life was implemented.

The number of seriously ill patients reached 857, an increase of 17 from the previous day, again recording the highest number ever.

57 people have died and 4,77 people have lost their lives to Corona 19 so far.

85% of the intensive care beds in the metropolitan area are operating, but the number of people waiting for hospitalization for more than a day is virtually saturated with 1,03 people.

The quarantine authorities said, "Currently, it can withstand up to 10,000 confirmed cases a day, but if it exceeds that, additional medical adjustments are necessary."

Omicron, a new mutation of COVID-19, spread to the fifth infection, and 22 new cases were confirmed, increasing the cumulative number of infections to 60.

The primary dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is 83.4% and the secondary dose is 80.8%.

The tertiary vaccination rate, which means booster vaccination, was counted at 9.4%.
