<Anchor> While the

main indicators related to the corona virus such as confirmed cases, severe cases, and deaths are getting worse day by day, I am even more worried because the Omicron mutant virus is also spreading in Korea. Three more infected patients were confirmed, bringing the total number of infected people to 12 so far. In particular, the infected are being confirmed mainly in churches in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, and students attending universities in Seoul and those in their 70s living in North Chungcheong are also suspected of being infected with the Omicron mutation.

<Reporter> The three

new confirmed cases of Omicron mutation are contacts who overlapped with a church member or acquaintance who attended a church service in Incheon, where the first group infection occurred.

With this, the total number of Omicron patients in Korea has increased to 12.

Health officials said all of them were asymptomatic or mild.

A screening clinic was established in the village where many members of the church live.

Concerns about community spread have also increased.

In Seoul, foreign university students who attended the church service last weekend were diagnosed with Corona one after another and were classified as suspected of Omicron.

The three university students subject to the test were identified as students of Seoul National University, Kyunghee University, and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.

Some of these people have been known to stay in the school library or attend face-to-face classes after attending the service.

Quarantine authorities have requested corona tests for hundreds of students with overlapping paths such as school classes and libraries.

In Jincheon, Chungcheongbuk-do, a foreign woman in her 70s who moved to Incheon and attended a worship service was diagnosed with Corona and is undergoing an Omicron test.

The woman returned to Jincheon after meeting a friend after worship, and quarantine authorities classified two friends and two family members as close contacts.

Fortunately, the four contacts tested negative for Corona.

The results of the Omicron test for 4 people including a 70-year-old college student and a patient suspected of Omicron will come out today (6th).
