Amazon will better inform consumers about software updates when purchasing a smart device, the Netherlands Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM) reported on Thursday.

The watchdog has been urging the company to do so for some time.

From now on, Amazon will notify all smart devices that the company itself sells whether information about updates is known.

In addition, the tech giant has requested information about updates from the fifty largest suppliers of smart devices.

That information is added to the product pages.

"It is important for consumers that Amazon provides information about updates to smart devices. Consumers can make a better choice with this information," the ACM writes.

At the end of 2019, ACM announced that it would review the extent to which online providers provided this information.

The conclusion at the time was that consumers were insufficiently informed., Coolblue and MediaMarkt already expanded and improved a large number of product pages for smart devices last year.
