While the number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Korea is at an all-time high, tensions among quarantine authorities are rising as cases of inflows of Omicron, a new mutation of Corona 19, have been confirmed.

As of 00:00 yesterday (1st), the number of new confirmed cases in Korea was 5,123, a record high.

The number of patients with severe gastritis also recorded the highest number with 723, and the capacity to treat the rapidly increasing number of patients with severe gastritis is reaching its limit.

In Seoul (90.7%) and Chungcheong Province (95.0%), the utilization rate of beds with severe COVID-19 exceeded 90%, and the overall metropolitan area has also risen to 89.2%.

On the 29th of last month, the government announced that it would postpone the implementation of the second stage of daily recovery and implement special quarantine measures for four weeks, such as expanding home treatment and booster vaccinations.

The government is collecting expert opinions on the necessity, level, and specific measures of social quarantine measures, but today (2nd) morning, the Daily Recovery Support Committee held a meeting of the quarantine and medical subcommittee in a non-face-to-face manner to hear opinions, and other subcommittees to hear the opinions of the members in writing. We plan to receive advice and pass it on to the main script.

It is known that there are many opinions in the Quarantine and Medical Division calling for stronger distancing. It is a government decision.

The government plans to gather opinions from the Daily Restoration Committee and finally discuss it at the major headquarters meeting the next day (3rd).
