A woman in her 90s with dementia was sexually assaulted by a man in her 80s who lived in the same neighborhood. However, even though there was a witness at the time of the rape and DNA of the assailant was detected in the grandmother's body, the police closed the case with a 'conclusion of no charges', causing controversy.

According to a media report today (1st), on March 22, a man in his 80s, A, was charged with trespassing into a house in Paju, Gyeonggi-do and sexually assaulting a 96-year-old grandmother suffering from dementia.

Mr. A entered the grandmother's bedroom through the open door and committed a crime, and the grandmother's granddaughter, who was in another room at the time of the incident, witnessed the crime and reported it to the police.

Person A, who was caught by the police, vehemently denied the crime. As a result of the National Forensic Service's analysis, DNA of Mr. A was detected in the grandmother's body.

It was revealed that Mr. A had been trespassing several times since the end of last year while the grandmother's second son and granddaughter were away.

In January, he came into the house and tried to molest and assault his grandmother, but was caught by the eldest son who stopped by the house to take care of the grandmother at the time and was kicked out.

However, the Paju Police Station, which investigated the case at the time, concluded that Mr. A was 'not guilty' in July after 4 months of investigation and ended the investigation without the direction of the prosecution.

The reason was that the victim's grandmother had dementia, and there was insufficient evidence because the statement was not clear.

The victim's grandmother's family raised an objection to the judicial authorities, and the prosecution reviewed the case again and requested the police to investigate the case.

The Gyeonggi Northern Police Agency is investigating a man in his 80s, who was cleared by the Paju Police Station in response to the prosecution's request for a supplementary investigation, on charges of forced molestation, attempted rape, and trespassing.

This is a 'news pick'.
