Wi-Fi 6E is just starting to arrive in homes, but Wi-Fi 7 is already being revealed.

This new standard is expected to be presented by MediaTek at CES 2022 which will be held from January 5 to 8.

“We want to be the leaders,” announces James Chen, vice president of product marketing at MediaTek.

The Taiwanese semiconductor company MediaTek has thus informed that it will demonstrate at this event the IEEE 802.11be standard, the other name of Wi-Fi 7 technology. As is always the case during the visit. towards a new standard, the speeds promised are much higher than current speeds.

James Chen claimed that Wi-Fi 7 would be 2.4 times faster than Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E.

As a reminder, these Wi-Fi offer a maximum theoretical speed of 10.5 Gb / s.

Wi-Fi 7 could therefore theoretically go up to 25.2 Gb / s.

Like Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 7 will use three frequency ranges.

The 2.4 GHz frequency band, the 5 GHz band and finally the 6 GHz band.

More stable

Another improvement, Wi-Fi 7 should also reduce the latency generated by the wireless connection and increase stability.

Two important factors for playing online games over Wi-Fi or for using cloud gaming services.

The gain has not yet been detailed.

Finally, interference caused by other nearby networks should be reduced.

“We can eliminate noise [from wireless connections] from your neighbor,” explains James Chen.

If the speeds promised by Wi-Fi 7 seem interesting, it will however be a few more years before its adoption by the general public is effective.

According to the IEEE, the body that manages Wi-Fi standards, the 802.11be standard will not be released until 2024.
