One of the well-kept secrets is the recipe for Quick's Giant burger sauce.
In Belgium, the brand has decided to mark the occasion to celebrate its 50 years by auctioning the recipe for its sauce in the form of NFT.
As a reminder, an NFT, standing for “non-fungible token”, designates a type of digital certificate of authenticity.
Although an infinite number of digital copies of an object can exist, it is the only one considered to be "the original".
The person purchasing an NFT thus becomes the legal owner of the digital work or object.
A work of art
In fact, the Belgian subsidiary of Quick did not actually sell the recipe for Giant sauce, but an artistic work based on this recipe. Kevin Derycke, the boss of Quick in Belgium, has indeed recorded the recipe in a soundproofed studio, so that no one but him can hear it. The appearance of the sound wave was then recorded. This is the image of this sound wave that was sold in the form of NFT. And the recipe will remain secret since it is impossible to decipher the image of a sound wave in order to recover the sound.
For Kevin Derycke, the approach is above all artistic: “The Belgians have been begging us for 50 years to reveal our method of preparation.
Thanks to NFT technology, the recipe is sold as a work of art to a Giant lover.
This action is certainly the icing on the cake of our 50th anniversary!
"
In the end, the work was sold for 7 Ethereum, or $ 31,000 at the current cryptocurrency price, donated to Digital for Youth, an organization that is committed to bridging the digital divide among young people in Belgium.
