In order to prevent the inflow of 'Omicron' mutations into Korea, the government has restricted entry into 8 neighboring countries and outbreaks of Omicron, including South Africa, from 00:00 today (28th). Further strengthening of quarantine measures in other countries is also being considered.

The Central Accident Management Headquarters said that the current occurrence of Omicron mutations in Hong Kong, the UK, and Italy was confirmed to have come from Africa, such as South Africa. He said he would review it.

After an emergency meeting last night (28th), the quarantine authorities are banning entry of all foreigners from eight African countries from 00:00 today.

The countries affected are the Omicron outbreak and neighboring countries: South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique and Malawi.

Today, two flights to Korea via these countries are QR858 and ET672 via Doha, Qatar and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and the number of passengers on this plane is 8 Koreans.

As the quarantine authorities designated all eight countries as countries with enhanced quarantine, high-risk countries, and countries exempt from quarantine, boarding is restricted for foreigners entering Korea from here, and even if they board an airplane, they cannot enter the country.

In the case of Koreans, regardless of whether they are vaccinated or not, they are quarantined in temporary living facilities provided by the government for ten days to check for infection.
