Emergency call 112 is the first call for people in case of an emergency, but it has been found that the aging of the system is serious.

In particular, the importance of the 112 system and the need to upgrade it are gaining sympathy due to the recent murder of a woman subject to personal protection in Jung-gu, Seoul.

According to the police today (26th), the current 112 system was built between 2011 and 2012, and the useful life of the main equipment has elapsed since 2018, and a significant part of it has deteriorated and is in urgent need of replacement.

Among them, the network and security equipment, which are essential and core equipment of the 112 system, are at high risk of failure due to aging.

Failures range from small failures such as system shutdown to large failures such as data loss.

In addition, recently, with the introduction of new IT technologies, connection between various systems has been made and data sharing has expanded, making stable and efficient system operation more necessary.

Accordingly, the police prepared and submitted a budget of 16.2 billion won for replacement and upgrading of old equipment, but only 8.1 billion won was reflected by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance.

The government is in the position to first compile a budget for replacing telephone-related equipment such as switchboards, CTI (Computer-Based Communication Integration System), and callbacks, as well as UPS (uninterruptible power supply) and thermo-hygrostat, but the police believe that this budget is insufficient.

The police say that 112 is urgently needed as it receives and handles 18 million reports per year on average, 35 reports per minute, and is the first system that people seek in emergency situations such as various crimes, disasters, and disasters.

It is known that the National Assembly also agrees with the aging of the 112 system and the need for improvement.

The police also believes that it is necessary to establish a '112 public portal' system to provide 112 reports, 112 PR, report facts and dispatch information.

The Fire Department has been operating the 119 Safety Report Center portal site since 2004.
