Chun Doo-hwan, who served as the 11th and 12th president, died today (23rd), which is the day that Chun Doo-hwan and his wife left their home in Yeonhui-dong, Seoul and went to a chipmunk at Baekdamsa Temple in Inje, so it is said that it is a strange relationship.

It was on November 23, 1988, that the Jeon and his wife, the 13th President Roh Tae-woo, who were friends, went to exile in Baekdamsa as if they were being pushed back in the process of so-called 'fifth public liquidation'.

At that time, the Jeon and his wife arrived at Baekdamsa Temple at 2:30 pm that day, after announcing a public apology statement titled 'A Word to the People' and leaving their home in Yeonhui-dong to go to seclusion.

Baekdamsa Temple, a temple with the national spirit after Manhae Han Yong-un officially left the house, became famous for a while as it became known as a retreat for the former clan and family.

At the time, a resident who watched the first arrival of the Jeon and his wife at Baekdamsa Temple said, "The beige Grandeur car, which left Yeonhui-dong and ran out of breath, dropped the Jeon and his wife in the clearing of the river in front of the temple and crossed a single wooden bridge and entered Iljumun." he recalled.

There is no longer a single wooden bridge about 10 meters long that the Jeon and his wife crossed.

Instead, an 80-meter-long and 3-meter-wide 'water-depth bridge' was constructed using granite.

Susimgyo, which means 'cleaning the mind', was named by Mr. Jeon, and it is known that Mr. Jeon wrote the name of the bridge on Hwaseon paper and engraved it on the head of the bridge.

After that, the seclusion of Baekdamsa Temple by the Jeon family continued for two years and one month until they returned to their home in Yeonhui-dong on December 30, 1990.

The distance from Yongdae-ri, the entrance to Baekdamsa Temple, to Baekdamsa Temple is about 7km and 14km round trip.

The Jeon and his wife could not come or go this short distance, and they lived for exactly 769 days.

In particular, it is said that Jeon was shocked to hear the news of the Inje Disarmament Bridge bus crash on November 4, 1990, during which 23 people were killed while he was in hiding at Baekdamsa Temple.

However, in December 2019, the traces and ties of the former family at Baekdamsa Temple were erased.

Following Mr. Jeon's so-called golf course outing in 2019, Baekdamsa Temple in Inje, which received public outrage with the '12/12 luxurious luncheon', removed Mr. Jeon's belongings that had been preserved for over 30 years.

In the Hwaeomsil of Baekdamsa Temple, the items used by the Jeon family were preserved for 30 years before being demolished.

The items that were preserved were clothing, bath products, mirrors, and blankets.

Dressing table, candle holder, washbasin, etc.

Jeon, who had been suffering from a chronic disease, died at his home in Yeonhui-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul around 8:40 am today.

Meanwhile, Jeon and Roh were close friends since their school days as classmates from the 11th class of the Military Academy.

However, during Roh's tenure in office, during the so-called 'financial liquidation' process, Jeon was sent to exile at Baekdamsa Temple, which led to a breakup between the two.

Then, under former President Kim Young-sam, both sides were jailed side by side on charges of rebellion and other charges.
