A 20-year-old man accused of stealing about 10 million won for dog surgery expenses was sentenced to prison in the first trial.

According to the court today (15th), the 9th criminal division of the Seoul Southern District Court (Judge Cho Sang-min) sentenced 29-year-old A, who was charged with fraud, to five months in prison.

In March last year, Mr. A was handed over to victim B on charges of defrauding a total of 6.1 million won six times, saying, "There is not enough money for surgery to remove the tumor of the dog I am raising."

In April of last year, he is also accused of stealing a total of 4 million won from victim C, saying, "I urgently need money for the dog's surgery expenses. I will pay it back when the salary comes in."

As a result of the investigation, it was revealed that Mr. A was trying to use the borrowed money for card payment, illegal sports gambling, and living expenses, not for dog surgery.

He already owes more than 100 million won to his acquaintances and financial institutions, so it is known that he did not have the ability to repay.

The court said, "The amount of damage from the crime is substantial, exceeding 10 million won. The criminal situation is not very good.”

However, he explained the reason for the sentencing, saying, "The victims do not want punishment, and the accused is acknowledging his mistake and reflecting on it."
