One week after carefully starting daily recovery, the number of new confirmed cases did not decrease significantly even on weekends, reaching 2,000. Starting tomorrow (the 8th), additional vaccinations for Janssen vaccine recipients will start, and the contract for the treatment for eating is to be completed within this month.

Reporter Kim Deok-hyun reports.

Over the past three months since August, there have been 160 collective infections in nursing homes and facilities, with 2,424 confirmed cases.

Most of the residents here, in their 60s and 70s, have already exceeded 90% of the vaccination completion rate, but after a certain amount of time has passed, they have become more vulnerable to infection.

The number of confirmed cases among the elderly in their 60s and older is also steadily increasing.

This is why the government has advanced the booster vaccination schedule for nursing hospitals and facilities by one month.

[Son Young-rae / Head of Social Strategy Team, Central Accident Remediation Headquarters (last 3 days): These are vulnerable facilities that have been vaccinated first since the end of February this year, and the period of weakening immunity is coming. (Booster vaccination) so that it can be carried out earlier within 4 weeks… .]

Additional vaccinations for 500,000 people, including those in nursing hospitals and facilities, will start from the 10th.

In addition, Janssen vaccinated persons, who have a much higher breakthrough infection rate than those vaccinated with other vaccines, will be able to receive a booster vaccination starting tomorrow.

Following 11 confirmed cases at a high school in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, the number of teenage infections is also increasing, with confirmed cases appearing at another high school nearby.

The government is in the position of recommending vaccination for teenagers as they are often exposed to risks due to group living, etc.

In addition, the government announced that it would complete contracts for 134,000 patients who have not yet signed a contract within this month, out of the 404,000 oral medicines to be imported in the first quarter of next year.
