For months, the shortage of semiconductors has been causing great difficulties in the computer world.

The increase in teleworking and the demand for computer equipment during the Covid crisis, health constraints and the economic war between the United States and China have led to a significant shortage of semiconductors, causing disability for them. technology companies to get their hands on much needed components.

In recent weeks, Pat Gelsinger, the CEO of Intel, has expressed concerns about the shortage of computer chips.

In the last quarterly report, Intel presented results below expectations with a decrease of 2%.

The company expected 18.24 billion dollars in sales: it only reached 18.1 billion.

"We are currently going through the worst time"

During this presentation, the CEO was quite pessimistic. He indicated that the demand for PCs was still as strong and that the situation would not return to normal before 2023: “We are currently going through the worst time. During each quarter of next year, we will see incremental improvements, but we will not find a balance between supply and demand until 2023 ”. The CEO added that he believed the increase in PC sales would continue after the health crisis. "We believe the PC industry is now structurally larger, a million-unit-a-day business."

Pat Gelsinger thus sits alongside other leaders such as Nvidia and TSMC.

They estimate that the shortage will continue next year.

The CEO of Intel says that to put an end to it, it will be necessary to strengthen the production lines of the companies.

Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, agrees, “It will get better next year.

Not immediately, but it will gradually improve as new factories are put in place.

If the shortage therefore does not seem about to end, we can however begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
