Daejeon Dong-gu Office officials were caught in an audit after they went on an overseas trip that did not fit the purpose of sick leave or parental leave.

According to the Daejeon City and Dong-gu Office on the 3rd, it was found that 10 out of 244 officials of the Dong-gu Office who took a long vacation from 2018 to May this year took an overseas trip that did not fit the purpose of the leave.

An employee submitted a medical certificate such as anxiety disorder and took sick leave for one month (20 days excluding public holidays) from June 2019.

However, the audit revealed that he had traveled to Spain with his friend for ten days (six days excluding public holidays) during the sick leave.

During the travel period, there was no local hospital treatment.

The employee stated, "I suddenly went on an overseas trip with a friend while resting at home."

In the end, the employee, who took sick leave for overseas travel, received 440,000 won as compensation for annual leave during that period.

The Dong-gu Office recovered the overpaid annual leave compensation, but treated it as 'regardless', a relatively low level of disciplinary action.

The audit also found that another employee, who took parental leave for one year from the end of 2018, went on two 17-day overseas trips without accompanying children to be raised.

The city audit committee said, "Dong-gu has neglected management, such as not receiving service-related education before the leave of absence or receiving reports on the status of service during the leave of absence." Strict military service management is required,” he emphasized.
