A couple in their 60s was arrested by the police on charges of stealing goods from a hypermarket for about a year and a half.

Gyeonggi Paju Police Station is investigating a 69-year-old man and his 64-year-old wife on charges of special theft.

They are accused of bringing things without paying at a large mart for about a year and a half from February last year to the 23rd of this month.

It was investigated that the clerk used a method to secretly put things in a box he had prepared when he was not looking, or to hide it in his clothes.

In order not to look suspicious, some of the cheap and bulky items have been paid for.

As the items continued to disappear, a mart employee who felt suspicious turned the CCTV and understood the circumstances of the crime.

And on the 24th, around 10:10 a.m., the couple returned to the mart and reported to the police.

The police confirmed that they had visited 180 times during the period through the membership card.

However, they are said to have stated, "There were about 100 crimes."

The police plan to determine the number of crimes through CCTV analysis.

When two or more people work together to steal an item, the crime of special theft, not simple theft, is applied.

Simple theft is punishable by imprisonment for not more than 6 years or a fine of not more than 10 million won, whereas special theft is punishable by imprisonment for not less than 1 year and not more than 10 years, so the sentence is heavier.
