  • Success 5 reasons not to miss 'Parallel mothers', the new Almodóvar with Penélope Cruz

Stars like

Angelina Jolie or Richard Madden

(

Game of Thrones

series

) or director

Chloé Zhao

, winner of two Oscars for

Nomadland

, are the great claims of

Eternals

, the new Marvel blockbuster

that hits

theaters on November 5

. A predictable blockbuster that has a Spanish accent,

has been shot largely in the Canary Islands

and even has a (controversial) mention of the history of our country.

Without revealing any spoilers, in this super production of

200 million dollars in budget, you

can hear Spanish speaking in two dialogues. And, even more, it has numerous

scenes shot in the Canary Islands. In 2019,

the team led by Zhao traveled to the island of

Fuerteventura

, to places such as La Solapa beach or Las Peñitas Dam, and

Lanzarote

. On this last island, the surroundings of the Cuervo Volcano appear in the grand finale of an action film with which Marvel tries to sweep the box office after the end of the

Avengers

saga

. A moment that, thanks to the visual effects, has a lot in common with the

current situation on the island of Palma.

The characters that give life to the Eternals, played among others by Salma Hayek, Richard Madden and Angelina Jolie.

Although the film is shot in English, Spanish

is spoken

in its dialogues

.

Specifically, in a scene that takes place in the

Amazon

and in a flashback that recalls the

fall of Tenochtitlán in 1521

.

There, Spanish soldiers are heard and one of the main characters makes mention of the

massacre (or genocide) of the Aztec population

, which can be controversial.

In

Eternals

, the story takes place in the present, but starts in the past when a group of

beings from space

in a large spaceship arrives on Earth (with a spectacular irruption on a beach in the Canary Islands) to

fight Los Desviantes

. These deadly beings are the great enemies of characters like Ikaris (

Richard Madden

), with the ability to shoot lightning with his eyes; Sersi (

Gemma Chan

, great protagonist of the story), who can transform the stone into water and much more; the warrior Thena (

Angelina Jolie

); Makkari (

Lauren Ridloff

), with her fantastic speed; Kingo (

Kumail Nanjiani

) and his cosmic powers;

Druig (

Barry Keoghan

) and his mind control;

Goblin (

Lia McHugh

), a girl with the gift of invisibility;

the clever Phastos (

Brian Tyree Henry

);

and Ajak (

Salma Hayek

), the leader of the group.

The spectacular ship and its arrival on Earth with views of the Canary Islands.

Alternating present and past, the plot tells of several moments in which these beings have protected humanity, offering a

particular revision of History

that will delight children and also adults who appreciate different artistic works that appear in the background.

Babylon or the aforementioned Tenochtitlán have been recreated together with recordings made at the Natural History Museum in London, where Sersi works.

London

, by the way, is another of the scenarios where several sequences take place, with

Piccadilly Circus, Camden High Street or Regents Canal Towpath

as locations.

The film's poster has the Canary Islands as a backdrop.

The humor in many moments, the inclusion of characters of various races, female empowerment and cinephile nods to films like

Peter Pan

,

Superman

or

Batman

are some details that will not go unnoticed by viewers.

Nor the 'morbid' of

seeing Richard Madden and Kit Harington together after

Game of Thrones

.
