The National Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) unexpectedly gathered around the Seodaemun Station intersection today (20th) and started a general strike.

The protesters were scattered around Euljiro 1-ga Station, Seoul City Hall, Taepyeong-ro area, and Jongno 3-ga, and as soon as the notice was shared around 1:30 pm, they immediately held up flags and marched toward the Seodaemun Station intersection.

They immediately occupied the road and started a general strike.

The police, which had gathered around Seoul City Hall and Gwanghwamun, also withdrew and moved toward Seodaemun Station and Daehanmun.

On major roads, such as the section from Euljiro Entrance to Daehanmun, when the police stopped movement, protesters protested and clashes occurred.

From around noon, the main entrances of subway stations such as Gyeongbokgung Station, Gwanghwamun Station, City Hall Station, Jonggak Station, and Anguk Station were closed and trains passed without stopping, resulting in traffic congestion.

Up to 30,000 people are expected to gather at today's rally, and the police are responding with a total of about 12,000 people from 171 units.

As the march toward the Blue House was also announced, police buses stopped in the narrow alleys in the east-west section from Anguk Tower and Dongsipakak to Naeja-dong and Jeokseon-dong.
