The video, initially posted on TikTok, had made the rounds on social networks.

Luxury brand Coach has announced that it will no longer destroy damaged or "unsaleable" products returned from its stores, after a video went viral claiming the label intentionally "tears up" unwanted items for tax purposes.

Without making direct reference to these claims, the American brand wrote on Instagram that it had "stopped" destroying these handbags and shoes, and would seek to "responsibly reuse, recycle and reuse excess or damaged products" .

“We have now stopped destroying products that are returned to us, damaged or unsaleable products.

We will do our best to make the most of these products in order to reuse them as part of our (re) loved program or other recycling programs, ”the brand said on Instagram.

Anna Sacks, an environmental influencer, had filmed a few days ago on TikTok unwrapping unusable, torn and cut Coach products.

In the one-minute video, the influencer known as @thetrashwalker explained that the brand "ordered its employees to deliberately cut off unsold products so that no one could use it."

The leatherworker, who said he favored a circular economy thanks to a repair program for his bags, in fact threw his unsold items in the trash, after tearing them so that they could not be used, and thus avoid being taxed. .

The video, where Anna Sacks can be seen explaining what happens to bags and shoes the Coach brand fails to sell, has been viewed over 2.7 million times on TikTok.

Many Internet users have relayed this video, some thanking the influencer for unveiling these practices, others promising to no longer buy the brand's products.
