Michael van Gerwen convincingly reached the second round of the European Darts Championship on Friday.

The four-time winner lost only two legs in Salzburg against the Croatian Boris Krcmar: 6-2.

Danny Noppert was too strong for Krzysztof Ratajski from Poland with the same score.

Van Gerwen quickly took a 4-0 lead against 42-year-old Krcmar.

The number seventy in the world then struggled a little bit, but a stunt was never in it.

Van Gerwen achieved an excellent average of 100.45 points per three arrows.

In addition, he hit six of his eleven chances for a double (54.5 percent).

De Brabander will face James Wade in the second round on Saturday.

The 2018 European Championship winner defeated Adam Smith-Neale 6-5.

Van Gerwen is chasing his second tournament win of 2021 at the European Championships. The 32-year-old Dutchman, who became European champion four times in a row between 2014 and 2017, was the best at the Nordic Darts Masters a month ago.

Last week he already stranded in the first round of the World Grand Prix.

Noppert beats senior Ratajski

Thirty-year-old Noppert and fourteen-year-old Ratajski kept pace in the opening phase of their first round match, but in the fifth leg the Dutchman forced the decisive break.

The number 22 of the PDC Order of Merit finished 24 hours and won the next three legs thanks to a nice overall average of 102.31 per three arrows.

In the next round, Noppert will face Englishman Ryan Searle, who eliminated fourth-seeded Michael Smith (6-5).

More than a week ago, Noppert reached the semi-finals of the prestigious World Grand Prix, partly due to a victory over Van Gerwen in the first round.

At the European Darts Championship, the 32 players who collected the most prize money on the European Tour are welcome.

Because only two European tournaments have been completed due to the corona pandemic, many top players are missing in Salzburg, including Dirk van Duijvenbode and Dimitri Van den Bergh.

The quarterfinals, semifinals and the final will be played on Sunday.
