A 40-year-old man who used up the deposit he received from the rental business in Iksan, Jeollabuk-do on foreign car purchases and overseas travel, was sentenced to a heavy sentence.

On the 14th, the 2nd Criminal Division of the Jeonju District Court (Chief Judge Lee Young-ho) dismissed the defendant's appeal in the appeal trial of 47-year-old A, who was charged with fraud, and sentenced him to 13 years and 6 months in prison as in the original trial.

The court also maintained the original trial sentence of 1 year in prison, 2 years of probation, and a fine of 30 million won for nephew B, who took part in some of the fraudulent crimes, and sister C, who lent his name.

Person A and others were indicted on charges of stealing 4,693.7 million won from deposits received from 122 tenants while running a one-room rental business near Wonkwang University in Iksan from March 2016 to February 2019.

It is known that they bought the old one-room house cheaply, then moved out the existing tenant and bought the one-room building again by receiving the deposit from the new tenant.

It was found that only 16 one-room buildings increased by this method.

It was revealed that Mr. A enjoyed a luxurious life, such as purchasing a luxury foreign car with the rent paid by the tenants and going on overseas trips about 100 times.

It was confirmed that he entered a domestic casino while being investigated by the police.

It is reported that the lessees requested the return of the deposit from Mr. A after the lease contract expired, but Mr. A kept procrastinating and did not return the deposit.

As the tenants who did not receive the payment filed a complaint, the police launched an investigation.

Most of the tenants who complained were college students and job seekers.

The first trial court sentenced A to 13 years and 6 months in prison, saying, "The accused systematically commits crimes against college students who lack social experience, so the quality of the crime is very poor."

The second trial court said, "The sentence set by the original court seems appropriate, so we maintain the original sentence as it is."
